Hotel Alex Johnson Officially Joins Curio – A Collection by Hilton: The First of Its Kind in the Midwest
Rapid City, SD – (August 18, 2015) It’s official. The historic Hotel Alex Johnson, located in downtown Rapid City, South Dakota, today officially became a member of Curio – A Collection by Hilton: a name synonymous with the highest quality of hotels and hospitality. The transition makes the Hotel Alex Johnson the sixth property in the collection and Curio’s first in the Midwest.
Liv Hospitality has managed the Hotel Alex Johnson since July 2008. “We are thrilled to have Alex Johnson be a part of this prestigious collection of hotels,” says Liv Hospitality CEO, Caleb Arceneaux. “Curio is the perfect brand to complement all that is unique and has made Hotel Alex Johnson iconic in the region.”
“Curio consists of carefully and thoughtfully selected four and five star hotels. Being selected is truly an honor,” says Lynzie Montague, General Manager of the Hotel Alex Johnson. “Each hotel is distinctive and caters to guests who seek local discoveries and authentic experiences unique to each location.”
With the transition to Curio come some changes to the historic hotel. Representatives of Hilton are presently on-site conducting in-depth training to ensure Hilton standards of service and hospitality are met. The hotel has updated linens and televisions, as well as enlarging and renovating restrooms. Further renovations are slated to continue through early 2016.
“While we are excited about what this transition means for the hotel, we are absolutely committed to maintaining the rich cultural heritage of the hotel,” says Rich Bradsky, co-owner of the hotel. “Curio, too, is committed to carefully preserving the historical significance of this stunning hotel.”
The Hotel Alex Johnson has been a downtown Rapid City landmark since 1928. Alex Johnson, a railroad magnate, was founder of this grand hotel that bears his name. Built in only one year, the hotel was built as a shrine and tribute to the Native American and German immigrant cultures so prevalent in the Dakotas. Currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel is renowned for hosting six US Presidents including Calvin Coolidge, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan.
In addition to the Hotel Alex Johnson, the Curio collection includes SLS Las Vegas Hotel & Casino; The Highlands Dallas in Dallas, TX; The Franklin Hotel in Chapel Hill, N.C.; Diplomat Resort & Spa, Hollywood FL and Providence Biltmore, Providence, RI.
With the transition now complete, Hotel Alex Johnson now participates in Hilton HHonors®, the award-winning guest-loyalty program for Hilton Worldwide’s twelve distinct hotel brands. Hilton HHonors Members always get the Hilton Best Price Guarantee, along with HHonors Points, free Wi-Fi, digital check-in and no booking fees only when they book directly through Hilton. Gold and Diamond HHonors members staying at Hotel Alex Johnson will enjoy complimentary breakfast for up to two registered guests per room, room upgrades (when available) and a Starbucks coffee voucher. To celebrate the opening, Hotel Alex Johnson is offering a special bonus of 1,000 Hilton HHonors points per night for stays through February 18, 2016 when booking the best available rate.
