Do You Believe In Ghosts?
Posted: January 05, 2017
There’s a certain hour in the night where shadows come alive. A coat in your closet moves ever so slightly, the curtains sway, and a breeze dances down your spine. Do you believe in things that go bump in the night? During the darkest hour of the evening, anything is possible.
Below are a few stories personally told by guests who have stayed at the historic Alex Johnson Hotel, known as one of the most haunted hotels in South Dakota.
December 4, 2011 —Room #914 —Kaitlin and Dianne
“The first night of our stay, at around 11:30 p.m., my mom and I woke up to a loud, clanging, almost alarm-like sound. It would die out and repeatedly get louder, but we couldn’t tell where it was coming from (not quite in the room but not in the silent hallway). The next morning we woke up to a freezing cold room, neither of us had touched the thermostat.”

“I have never in my whole entire life walked into a room and been as instantaneously and intensely creeped out as when I walked into that room for the first time. My skin immediately started to crawl, and did so for the entire evening. It was like I had walked into a wall as soon as I entered the room.
Couldn’t sleep more than 30 minutes, didn’t even actually get in the bed, just curled up into a ball on top of the sheets. When I finally dozed for a few minutes I woke up to the sounds of something going BANG BANG BANG either in the hallway or pretty close to my door…there were no accompanying voices or footsteps…
Thought it’d be nice to check out Vertex and as I was standing on the very top balcony, out of the corner of my right eye, I could’ve sworn that there was someone watching me from the lower floors wearing some kind of white outfit. When I went to look in that direction, there was nothing there but the curtains in the window.
What a terrifying evening! Also, there was repeatedly a woman’s voice in the hallway but no woman to go along with it.”

“- Shower turned off
- Phone speaker kept turning on
- Alarm went off every couple hours but no alarm was set
- Drawers were open when we came back to the room
- Door was open when we woke up”
Not too convinced? I booked a Ghost package once and spent the night in Alex Johnson’s infamous haunted room 812.
