Lakota Nation Invitational Tournament

December 16-20, 2025

Rapid City will come alive December 16-20 with energy, culture, and athletic competition as it hosts the 48th Lakota Nation Invitational (LNI) — one of the most unique Native American events in the world. Originating in 1976 as a modest high school basketball tournament, LNI has blossomed into a multi-day spectacle of sports, culture, and academics, featuring basketball, wrestling, cheerleading, skateboarding, the Lakota Language Bowl, Pow Wow, art shows, knowledge bowls, the Miss LNI pageant, and so much more!

Attendees can expect high-energy games held across Rapid City venues such as Summit, Barnett, and Ice arenas in The Monument. Cultural and educational competitions are woven throughout the week: from K–5 and middle school Lakota Language Bowl and hand games, an art show, business plan and chess competitions, to the grand entries and honoring ceremonies that culminate the week. LNI brings together dozens of Native American high schools from South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Wyoming for a powerful celebration of youth, tradition, and sportsmanship.
