The Hotel Alex Johnson delivered again! This was my third stay at the Hotel Alex Johnson in two years. My first two were two years ago. I am the type of business traveler who keeps track of not just hotels but of the particular rooms in which I would like to stay again. Consistency is very important to me. So, I was a little surprised at how much things have changed. It looks like the Hotel Alex Johnson refreshed its rooms; so, while I demand consistency, the change was a pleasant surprise. The only complaint I had with the refresh is that a standing floor lamp had a 5000 Kelvin LED bulb. As it was not as warm as the 3000 Kelvin bulbs used in all of the other lamps, use of that lamp left that area of the room looking sterile and flooded with a harsh cold white light. In terms of size, the rooms can be described as cozy but not in the way that a boutique in Manhattan will use to describe as being extraordinarily tiny. You don’t have to leave the hotel for food, drink or Starbucks. There is an Irish themed bar and Starbucks off the lobby but where the hotel shines for dining is Vertex, which is at the top of the hotel. The restaurant has fantastic views and great food although I thought that some of the pricing on the single malt scotches was a little steep. By the way, there are outdoor fire “pits” that keep the outdoor deck relatively warm.If you seek food or drink elsewhere, the hotel’s location could not be better, Tally’s is across the street but make sure to make reservations. There are many other options all less than two blocks away.If you are looking for a place to stay while on vacation with that someone special or just on a business trip, look no further than the Hotel Alex Johnson.Pro tip: If you are checking in on a Saturday and leaving on Sunday, consider the street parking, which ends at 5pm on Saturday and is free all day on Sunday, instead of using the valet.
